The Charging Cabinet electronics encompasses simultaneous tablet charging, individual USB 2.0 expansion ports, and an internal 8-port network switch for external communications for each of the eight tablets. The Charging Cabinet also has a temperature activated fan control system for overall cabinet cooling. Each tablet mounts into the Charging Cabinet with a simple sliding ramp formed to guide the tablet onto a mating POGO connector. Once the connector makes contact, the cabinet electronics detects the tablet and waits prescribed amount of time to be sure the tablet is completely seated before applying power to the charging pins of that tablet. This allows the system to safely keep power removed from each charging / docking port until a tablet is actually installed, and then the system applies power. Once the tablet is removed, the power is removed from that POGO connector so that the exposed pins are turned off. The communications to and from each tablet is over two pathways. The primary interface is via the USB 2.0 to 1 Gigabit network interface electronics. This electronics communications subsystem is implemented as a USB 2.0 to network interface for each tablet. In turn, each of these network ports are connected to a built-in 8-port Gigabit network switch. The interface to the Gigabit network switch is brought out to a RJ45 connector located on the side of the cabinet. The cabinet is equipped with low-noise quiet fans. The fan controller activates the fans at a predetermined cabinet temperature to keep the entire cabinet cooled. The highest generated heat is when each of the tablets are uncharged and are all placed into the cabinet at or near the same timeframe. The typical profile however, is when the tablets have been charged. In this profile, the combined heat generated by the cabinet electronics and tablets is very low. In either case, the fan control system is designed to provide adequate air flow for cooling.
